Since Roman Times, Buxton, high in the Derbyshire hills of the Peak National Park has been known predominantly as a Spa Town surrounded by valleys, dales, streams and wild moorland. It offers stunning natural beauty to all who are fortunate enough to visit this picturesque part of England. Most guest who visit these parts (especially for the first time) come away with a lasting impression of its scenic and rugged landscape only to return year after year tocover a little more of this remote, sometimes hostile but always spectacular Pennine Region.Tucked away in this landscape are many fine stately homes including Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Hardwick Hall, Kedleston and Lyme Park - to name but a few. Many local trails provide good access for walking, cycling and trekking activities. For the more adventurous there are opportunities for hang-gliding, sailing, caving, gliding, abseiling and rock-climbing. Alton Towers and Gardens are within easy reach.Around Buxton there are many country shows and festivals as well as craft antiques and collectors fairs.
